Phonebank for President Obama’s Birthday

August 4th is President Obama’s birthday. We would like to fulfill his birthday wish of getting involved in the community by doing a phonebank. We will be contacting first time voters from ’08 who support the President. These “surge” voters generally don’t vote in midterm elections. So we want to make sure they do! Our phone calls will urge them to vote in November.

This will be a fun and easy phonebank. Feel free to bring your friends and family (and anyone else who is interested!). No experience is necessary and training will be provided!

Come and have fun with other Obama supporters in Weber County!

Date: August 4, 2010
Time: 3pm – 6pm
Location: Home of Stephanie Burnett (South Weber, UT)
8021 S 2700 E
South Weber, UT 84405

Wanted: Weber County Intern for Organizing for America

Available 10-15 hours per week. The selected candidate will learn organizational skills they can apply to any campaign or cause, make valuable connections in the political community, and be a part of a great organization. It is an unpaid position, but would look great on a resume!

OFA Day of Action, July 17

What: Day of Action!
Where: 40th Street Park
Date: July 17, 2010
Get walk lists: 10 am
Meet Back at the park: 2 pm

As the campaign season is starting to heat up, the State Democratic Party and Organizing for America (OFA) are planning a coordinated canvass on July 17th. We would like to invite you to participate as we reach out to first time voters from 2008 and folks that typically only vote during presidential elections. We need these Democrats to be invested in local candidates. With your help we could greatly increase our capacity to reach these targets via phone or on the door.

OFA has been working hard to recruit and train Democratic Party activists in Utah. On June 5th, our Vote 2010 Kickoff turned out almost 100 volunteers canvassing for local candidates. This level of grassroots participation at this early date has been unprecedented.  July 17th is our next Vote 2010 National Day of Action.

Our neighborhood canvass will held from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. We will begin the canvass at the 40th Street Park in South Ogden (555 39th Street, South Ogden, UT). From here we will disburse all the needed materials (scripts, lists, campaign literature, etc.). The 40th Street Park will also be our 2:00 pm meet up location.  Our primary goal will be to ask presidential year voters to sign a commitment card indicating that they will vote in 2010. The physical act of signing a commitment card makes a voter substantially more likely to vote in November. That likelihood greatly increases when they get it mailed back to them—just like getting a reminder of your next appointment for the dentist! Volunteers will be provided with a “voter commitment card” to give to these Obama targets.
